Dog-Friendly Beaches on Cape Cod
Cape Cod boasts of some of the best beaches in the country. If you have a pet, you might want to bring them along with you to the beach. You are in luck as some beaches on the Cape are pet-friendly. Nonetheless, most of the beaches have strict regulations as to when you can bring a pet and when you can’t. Most of these regulations are instituted and enforced by the local town authorities. Below are some useful guidelines on the dog-friendly beaches on Cape Cod.
Barnstable Dog-Friendly Beaches
Barnstable does not allow visitors or residents to bring dogs to the beach during the summer. You can take your dog to a Barnstable beach from September 15th to May 15th. There are residents’ only beaches and beaches both visitors and residents have access to. Some of the residents’ only dog-friendly beaches include:
- Craigville Beach
- Dowses Beach
- Millway Beach
- Loop’s Beach
- Eugenia Fortes Beach
- Long Beach
- Oregon Beach
- Ropes Beach
The dog-friendly beaches that are open to both non-residents and residents include:
- Craigville Beach
- Kalmus Beach
- Keyes Beach
- Veterans Beach
- Wequaquet Beach
There are several great dog-friendly hotels and inns in Barnstable. If you are visiting and you have your dog with you, consider staying at Comfort Inn, Lamb and Lion Inn, Harbor House Inn, Cascade Motor Lodge, or Marston Family Bed and Breakfast.
Brewster Dog-Friendly Beaches
Pets are not allowed on Brewster public beaches during the peak season. You can access the beaches with a pet from May 1st to October 1st during the off-peak season. The public beaches that allow dogs during the off-peak season include:
- Crosby Landing Beach
- Breakwater Beach
- Linnell Landing Beach
- Ellis Landing Beach
- Point of Rocks Landing Beach
- Saints Landing Beach
- Robbins Hill Beach
- Paines Creek Beach
Bourne Dog-Friendly Beaches
Dogs are not allowed on Bourne Beaches during the peak season. You can access the public beaches with a pet from May 1st to October 15th. Save for Monument Beach, all Bourne public beaches only give access to residents. You can access Monument Beach as a visitor if you are staying in a local hotel for a week or longer. Monument Beach will give you a temporary sticker if you can provide proof of such a hotel booking.
The dog-friendly public beaches in Bourne include:
- Gray Gables Beach
- Barlows Landing Beach
- Electric Avenue Beach
- Phillips Road, Sagamore Beach
- Sagamore (First) Beach
- Sagamore (Second) Beach
- Hen Cove Beach
- Red Brook Harbor Beach
- Picture Lake
- Squeteague Harbor Beach
- Monument Beach
Bourne hotels that are dog-friendly include Eastern Inn, Bay Motor Inn, Knight’s Inn, and Fox Run Bed & Breakfast. Aside from the beaches, you can visit dog-friendly campgrounds in Bourne such as Bourne Scenic Park Campground, Scusset Beach State Reservation, and Bay View Campground.
Chatham Dog-Friendly Beaches
Dogs are not allowed on Chatham’s beaches over the summer. You can visit the public beaches with a dog in the offseason from September 16th to April 30th. The following are the dog-friendly beaches in Chatham you can visit in the offseason:
- Harding Beach
- Forest Beach
- Cockle Cove Beach
- Oyster Pond Beach
- Jackknife Harbor Beach
- South Beach
- Lighthouse Beach
- Ridge Valle Beach
- Pleasant Street Beach
Falmouth Dog-Friendly Beaches
Dogs are not allowed on Falmouth’s public beaches from May 1st to September 30th. You can take your dog to the dog-friendly beaches from October 1st to April 30th. The dog-friendly beaches in Falmouth include:
- Bristol Beach
- Falmouth Heights Beach
- Chapoquoit Beach
- Old Silver Beach
- Stoney Beach
- Surf Drive Beach
- Wood Neck Beach
- Menuahant Beach
- Megansite Beach
Dennis Dog-Friendly Beaches
Dennis beaches are closed for dogs for the entire summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can take your dog to the dog-friendly Dennis beaches outside of the summer months. The dog-friendly Dennis beaches include:
- Chapin Memorial Beach
- Corporation Beach
- Bayview Beach
- West Dennis Beach
- Howes Street Beach
- Mayflower Beach
- Inman Road Beach
- Scargo Beach
- South Village Beach
- Sea Street Beach
Eastham Dog-Friendly Beaches
Eastham’s Cape Cod National Seashore Beaches are open to dogs all year round. Herring Cove Beach, Race Point Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach, Marconi Beach, Coast Guard Beach, and Nauset Light Beach are generally dog-friendly. You must have your dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet. While you can take your dogs to these beaches during the summer, the lifeguarded areas of the beach are out of bounds for all pets over the summer months.
Harwich Dog-Friendly Beaches
You can access Harwich’s public beaches with a dog only during the offseason. The beaches are out of bounds for dogs for the entire summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The dog-friendly beaches you can visit with your dog during the offseason include:
- Earle Road Beach
- Bank Street Beach
- Pleasant Bay Beach
- Long Pond Beach
- Red River Beach
You can go to Red River Beach with a dog over the summer as long as they don’t make it to the sand. Dogs are allowed in the parking area all year round.
Orleans Dog-Friendly Beaches
Orleans beaches only allow pets during the offseason. The beaches are out of bounds for pets for the entire summer. The dog-friendly beaches are Nauset Beach, Rock Harbor, and Skaket Beach. While you can’t access Nauset Beach with a dog over the summer, the Nauset Beach Orv Trails are fair game even during the peak summer months as long as they are open.
Provincetown Dog-Friendly Beaches
Provincetown has the most dog-friendly beaches on the Cape. Harbor Town beaches allow off-leash dogs in the morning from 6 am to 9 pm and in the evening from 6 pm to 9 pm. The National Sea Shore beaches, Herring Cove and Race Point, allow dogs all year round as long as they are on a leash no longer than 6 feet. The lifeguarded areas are, however, not accessible to dogs during the summer.
Yarmouth Dog-Friendly Beaches
Dogs are not allowed on Yarmouth beaches from May 15th to Labor Day. You can access the beaches during the offseason as long as the dogs are on a leash. The Seagull Beach does not allow dogs from April 1st to Labor Day.

- Bass Hole Beach
- Bay View Beach
- Bass River Beach
- Seagull Beach
- Colonial Acres Beach
- Eaglewood Beach
- Parker’s River Beach
- South Middle Beach
- Windmill Beach
- Wilber Park Beach
Sandwich Dog-Friendly Beaches
Sandy Neck Beach, Town Neck Beach, and East Sandwich Beach allow dogs during the offseason only. You can visit the beaches with a dog from October to March. All dogs are required to be on a leash.
Truro Dog-Friendly Beaches
Town-owned public beaches in Truro allow dogs during the offseason only. Outside of this period, you can take your dogs to the beaches in the mornings before 9 am and in the evening after 9 pm from Labor Day to the second Saturday in June. Dog-friendly beaches you can visit during the offseason include Ryder Beach, Long Neck Beach, Fisher Beach, Great Hollow Beach, Coast Guard Beach, Beach Point, and Ballston Beach.
The Head of the Meadow Beach, save for the lifeguarded areas over the summer, allow dogs all year round. All dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
Wellfleet Dog-Friendly Beaches
Wellfleet beaches are generally dog-friendly and they allow dogs all year round even during the peak summer season. The dog-friendly beaches include:
- Cahoon Hollow Beach
- Newcomb Hollow Beach
- Marconi Beach
- Lecount Hollow Beach
- White Crest Beach
- Herring Cove Beach
While you can access the beaches with a dog during the summer, the lifeguarded areas are generally out of bounds for dogs during the peak summer season.
